About Toi Et Moi
Toi Et Moi. You And Me. Love will set us free. Together since 2023.
One cold night of that year, alone in my apartment I was listening to Toi Et Moi by Paradis. This funky little French beat, light and refreshing. I was thinking of the warm summer days.
It made me think of a conversation I had with a friend - walking around the city, coffee in hand and thoughts in our heads. And then I saw it, what if I give life to my Flowauras, what is Flowauras are people?
This was the first time I didn’t position the flower as the central element of the piece; but using them as the head, the brain. I used the eye in the center of the flower to represent the subconscious, the inner eye, looking inside to reflect outside. The petals have sprouts in the center, thoughts are blooming, maybe even opinions are forming.
This piece is about a connection between two people - friends, lovers, soulmates, strangers. Toi Et Moi; You and me; drawn in this space of time together, they are talking about life, about art and music. Their culture and their values vary and their differences are still what allies them. One has what the other hasn’t; they find balance.
I wanted both individuals to look opposed and alike at the same time. In representing their similarities, I drew abstract elements in their clothing, all different shapes but held within the same geometric family.
I loved playing with the colour combinations of their garments, from their hats to their shoes. Blue and yellow; orange and red. I intentionally wanted their colours to slightly complement. Hinting that, even though they don’t realize it yet, they match parts of their personalities like the colours of their clothes. You find the pink jeans of one in the pink and blue shoes of the other; the orange sweater of one is found in orange elements of the shoes of the other.
The Flowauras are not touching, their heads are green, aligning and connecting.
These Flowauras found themselves at this specific moment,
Not knowing if their lives were going to be intertwined
Or if their time was going to pass by.
The Flowauras are not touching,
They are waiting, they are wondering,
If there will ever be a moment to spark the light
And finally let love win the fight.
